Clayton Miller Blues to play benefit concert

JAMMIN': Clayton and L. D., members of the Clayton Miller Blues Band, rock out last year during one of their performances.

Blues.

That one word is how 8-year-old L. D. Miller describes the music that he, his brothers and father play in their band, the Clayton Miller Blues Band.

The band will be performing an all-ages benefit show at Riehle Brothers Tavern at 2270 Concord Road in Lafayette at 6 p.m. on Sunday. All proceeds from the concert will go to the New Community School, which has applied to be the first charter school in Lafayette and where Miller attends.

The New Community School is different from the normal school in that, as Brian Emch described it, "it’s like letting someone else home school your kids."

Emch said the school allows for small class groups, so it is a "friendlier environment."

Miller, who's attended the New Community School since November, is one of four family members who make up the band. In addition to Miller, who plays harmonica and does some of the vocals, The Clayton Miller Blues Band includes 19-year-old Clayton Miller on lead guitar and vocals. Behind him on drums and vocals is his younger brother, 16-year-old Cole Miller, who also, when the need arises, plays bass and guitar.

The last member of the band is the father of all these blues prodigies, Larry Miller. Larry plays guitar and rounds out the four members of the band.

The band has a sound that is said to be reminiscent of Kenny Wayne Shepherd and a style that is similar to N’Sync meets Hank Williams with a touch of leather.

The Clayton Miller Band will be headlining this event and will be playing until 9 p.m. The concert will also include door prizes and a raffle; food and drinks will be available, too.

The tickets for this show are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Children under the age of 12 get in free. You can purchase tickets at McGuire Music and Sound, 11 Sagamore Pkwy. South in Lafayette and Von’s Records and Posters, 325 W. State St. in West Lafyette, and J. L. Compact Discs, 380 Brown St. in West Lafayette.
